MANGO

SHORT FILM | EGYPT | 2024

In the house where Mango is set, everything remains untouched, preserving the final moments of life from 20 years ago. The wall clock has stopped, frozen at the final hour before closure. The house preserves the remnants of little Nadia's abandoned childhood.

Visualizing The World of Mango

In Mango, Nadia retraces her father Yahia's steps, who left when she was seven and emigrated 20 years ago. She returns to their abandoned family home, reconnecting with memories of her deceased father. In the process, she meets him again, at the same age he was on his final day.

Through the set design of the house—especially Yahia's room—I evoke the absence of the father and brother, using details, papers, and props to invite the audience to understand Yahia as his universe unfolds.

Color
Palette

My goal was to evoke absence and moments frozen in time. Forming the palette, I applied rich dust and sand tones to weathered walls and furniture, creating a vintage feel.

Inspired by nostalgic 90s hues and the vibrant shades of mango trees and fruit, the colors capture the cherished memories of Nadia's childhood with her little family.

The film was set in a villa in Cairo, transformed into the world of Mango. Every corner was painted to evoke the family's 90s story, with wall marks and handprints hinting at those who once played there. The house reflects the vibrant life of a loving father and his optimistic, playful child—all centered around the impactful presence of the mango tree.
