Lamis Souliman, a Production Designer for film,
television and commercials living in Egypt
Lamis began her journey in cinema by teaching film history and production design while preparing for her master’s in set design and experimental films [2014]. Shortly after, she traveled to France to pursue higher studies in creative new media, where she designed and produced her short film “Un Passage Entre Deux Points” [2017].
A year later, she shifted her focus from academia to the media industry, and to date, she has designed, developed concepts, and art-directed over 20 productions, including films and TV commercials, between Egypt, France, and Saudi Arabia.
Although now renowned for her work in film and television, Lamis spent four years in theater as a scenographer and installation artist [2011-2015], and she also created socially and politically engaged comic and illustration drawings advocating for human and women’s rights.
Her early work as a production designer spanned low-budget films and art-house projects, evolving into commercials and large-scale productions. This varied experience fostered her flexibility in diverse production environments and nurtured a spirit of collaboration and experimentation. Stepping into the year 2022, Lamis designed her first Netflix original series, “Crashing Eid”, embracing new cultural and production strategies. That same year, she also worked on two short films that premiered at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival [2024].
In parallel, Lamis has art-directed numerous TV commercials and campaigns in Egypt, with her debut campaign in 2018—focused on raising awareness about water pollution—paving the way for many subsequent projects.
In 2024, her career reached an exciting turn when she contributed as a co-production designer for “The Tale of Daye’s Family,” a film celebrating the beauty of Egyptian cities. This project premiered at the Red Sea Film Festival and later made its European debut at the Berlinale Film Festival.
Throughout her professional life, Lamis has successfully ventured into new markets and film scenes, building multi-talented art teams from the ground up and navigating diverse cultures with ease—each collaboration further fueling her creative journey.
